Music Video Coursework Questionnaire

1. What genres of music do you listen to?

·         Pop

This chart shows that pop and indie are the most popular genres of music, dub-step is the least popular. I could either pick the popular genres knowing that there is a large audience out there or I could pick dub-step as this low rating shows that there is a gap in the market.

2. What colours do you think represent this genre of music?

Once I have chosen which genre to work with I can come back to this questionnaire to find out which colours represent the genre the best so that it is recognisable to the audience.

3a. What do you consider to be most appropriate style of music video for the genre of music you have listed that you listen to?

·         Narrative- tells a story

·         Performance- the song is performed

·         Concept- based around an idea or concept

Again, once I have decided which genre to work with I can choose the style most suited to the genre by looking at this chart .

Concept

This lets me know that a performance should be focusing on the artist in a narrative style rather than to an audience, narrative should involve the artist and a concept style should have a cheerful approach.

4. What do you think makes and affective music video?

The main aspects that were highlighted from the question was the idea of the video, the quality of the filming, the creativity, the editing and how well it was suited to the genre. This chart tells me that it is important that my product shows creativity, is of a high quality and suits the genre well.

5. What do you think are the most important aspects of an album cover?

·         Involvement of the artist

·         Involvement of previous logos/ colour schemes (on previous albums)

·         Colour

·         Text

This tells me that the involvement of the artist and use of colour are the two most important features on the album cover.

6. Do you think it is important for the list of songs to be on the outer packaging of the digipak rather than inside?

This tells me that it is vital to include the track list on the outside yet a quarter answered no so perhaps I will include the list on the inside as well.

7. On the inside of the digipak which of the following would you consider to be the most interesting?

     This chart shows that I should focus on the images used in the digipak and have detailed information of both the artist and the album.

8. What two features would you say is most effective in grasping your attention on an advertisement for an album?

·         The text

·         The images

·         The overall appearance (Colour, format, size)

·         The construction of layout

·         Involvement of the artist

      The overall appearance of the advertisement is important, so the colour and format should match/ link to the digipak. The text and image are other features that I should focus on.

9. What one piece of information would you find to be the most important to advertise and therefore be the most attractive?

·         The band/artists name

·         The name of the album

·         The date of release

·         The list of songs on the album

          Where you can purchase it

      The band/artist name should be the largest and first thing you see on the advertisement, the album name and release date is very important too. The list of songs and where you can purchase the album should be involved but are not key pieces of information.
